dawn - cleaned up and at work in her office.

hello!
welcome to my site.  my name is dawn sanders-myers and i am an artist working out of atlanta, georgia. i create art work that focuses on the modern and abstract by experimenting with process, emotions and energy, movement, color, texture, materials, applications, and color theory.

i am a painter, but a lot of my work is mixed media.  i am always experimenting with mediums and their reactions to each other, so the discovery of new applications is always welcome!  i usually work on canvas, linen, wood, and paper ... but you never know what is coming next.

the mediums and tools i love to work with:

acrylic paint
latex paint
spray paint
water color
glazes
inks
charcoal
soft and oil pastels
modeling paste
pumice stone
glass beads
antiquing agents
gels of all kinds
wood
string
paper
spackle
metallics
paint brushes
my hands
palette knives
combs
wood tools
metal tools
sponges
sand paper
fabrics
rollers
squeegee
random found objects

artist statement

i love to use vibrant colors, random display of scratches, layers and layers of paint meshing and molding to peep through and provide depth to a space.  there is a randomness in my process of creating and i focus on working in a fashion that transforms a single moment into a time captured on a canvas … to capture the unseen or what most may not commonly observe. when creating a surface and space that does not hold common visual images, i ask the viewer to break chains of associations to physical subject matter and create new thoughts or questions. when working i feel that i am creating a simple space where time is gently installed into a stillness of material – colors, texture of paint, layered upon layered masses of media…and knowing that each brushstroke is evident of something learned, evident of the small things that are commonly unseen, and evident of human emotion that is silently felt. i am interested in the process of experimenting, finding the new in the old knowledge, and challenging my process and the constraints of reason. i have found that there is an evolution to my process + a process in life + a life always in change = it’s always evolving!  by continually working on my process in my artwork, i am showing a representation of change and growth that happens within my life, transforming learned experiences and thoughts to a freedom of expression and a reaction to our world. my process, which is evident in my work, shows the interpretations of reflections that are acted out onto a surface.

about this blog

i created this blog site to showcase my current work, but also to show you what's going on in my studio, what other projects and inspirations i may be into at the moment, news / events, and so we can get in touch!

i really liked the fact of using a blog style website because it is just so easy to update and feels more organic with my creative process and sharing.  so, everything will be intertwined within posts.

if you click portfolio (under categories), you will see all of my current inventory that is available for shows, purchase, etc.  you can also search by other categories - small, medium, and large (for the size you are looking for); cool or warm tones, framed work, etc.  you can also search by the title, which will be listed under blog archives.  what i really suggest, is that you come for a studio visit!  seeing art work in person or in your own space is the best way to see and experience it.
